Snow Pillow 2

This painting is a second painting of a wolf I photographed in Colorado at Wolf Sanctuary. It was the middle of summer and definitely I took “artist license” in adding the “snow pillow” he is laying his beautiful head on! This one is a small detailed painting only 6×8 image size, available at the RS Hanna Gallery (www.rshannagallery.com) I am privileged to be represented by them in Fredericksburg, my home town. This prestigious gallery is such a blessing to me. Shannon Hanna the proprietor, is the sweetest most supporting person! She makes you feel like you just stepped into her home as her honored guest. The gallery is a beautiful old house restored on Llano Street.  I am so privileged to be a part of it. You must come by and see all my work there. Her father-in-law the renowned artist John Austin Hanna, has his beautiful painting throughout the gallery, as well as many other amazing artist from around the U.S.A. Just wanted to update you on what I have been doing.
Just completed this large 16×20 pastel called “Cow Lick”

I have just received a letter that I have been juried into The Pastel Society of America.  I am very honored.  this is a goal I have set for myself and achieving it means alot to me.

We recently went to Jackson Hole for a week of art viewing and visiting the National Wildlife Art museum.  What a spectacular place.  The best of the best in wildlife art is there.  I am excited to get busy using the pictures I took while there for more paintings.  I photographed a Mother moose and baby,a beautiful Elk so close I couldn’t believe my luck, and beautiful scenery.  More later

Winter in the Hill Country

For those of you who live where “real” winter hits…we on the other hand have 40’s at night and 60’s during the day!  So why don’t I go out to paint more??? Could not tell you that, procrastination, lazy, busy??  However I am re-organizing my studio to be more “user friendly”,  that would be me who I need to help…It is hard to get motivated when there are 8 things stacked on your drawing table.  Now as I type, I have moved out the sofa and rocking chair and added a bigger easel and table to lay out my designs…. actually completed an oil painting of roses, yes, roses.  I an organizing a workshop for Denise Mahkle PSA in March and signed up for a workshop in October with Albert Handell!  I am so excited to have the chance to learn from the best…I just cannot believe I have the chance to do this.  My life has been centered around taking care of my precious mother who has lived here the last 5 years.  She was a blessing to me everyday and an inspiration.  She left for her heavenly home January 1 at age 98.  What a wonderful life she lived.  I have time that I never thought I was missing, to paint……so here goes, I will make my Mother proud.  She was a wonderful artist and she would always be my biggest fan.  I imagine she is still rooting for me, as I gather myself to start this year….I am blessed.  Watch for some new work….Maryneil

News from Fredericksburg

Maryneil Dance, People's Choice Award and Joanne Spencer, Artists Choice Award

This week has been a busy one. I have been finishing up the paperwork for the past weekend art show for Die Kunstler Von Fredericksburg (The Artists of Fredericksburg) art show. I was the largest show to date with 320 paintings entered. I am happy and proud to announce that I won The People’s Choice award this year for my wolf, Snow Blanket. I have a picture of the wolf in my past blog. The one looking sideways.

New Paintings This Week

I just uploaded 4 small paintings I finished this week.  They are 5″x5″ and I think they would make a neat grouping.  I will have them framed in a wide wood frame.  Decided to use some of my Alaska pictures of the bear and Cheeta (who was in the zoo in Anchorage)!  To see them look under paintings pastel and they are the latest ones.  Had fun and hope you enjoy them.  We have an art show coming up November 11-12-13 and hope to show these.  Maryneil
